Ask The Editors: Did the Spokesman-Review report on interrogation discussions?

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 13:26:32 PDT
Question: I couldn't find this story (about the CIA interrogation tactics) in the S-R. Did I miss it? Or did you choose not to print it? -- Judy Butler Answer: We published a short version of the Washington Post story about the tactics in the April 12 edition. That was the same week that Congress was holding hearings on the war in Iraq, so we devoted much more of our news space to the hearings instead of the interrogation issue. Here's what we published: By Dan Eggen Washington Post CRAWFOR

KNBC anchor Ana Garcia, producer Rebecca Nieto, VP/News Director Robert Long and (not shown) web managing Bonnie Buck talk about how the station covers news and their relationship with PR people in a video shot during a recent Public Relations Society of America panel. (See the whole video.) Long makes the point that the station's news meetings are shown live on the digital side, but good luck finding it on the website. Previously: Candid words from NBC4's boss

Arianna Huffington: The Toxic Thinking of the Right Infects the Body Politic

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 13:27:04 PDT
Yesterday, I wrote about how the mainstream media have completely internalized the framing and messages of the lunatic fringe now in control of the Republican Party, and offered a series of the latest examples. Like clockwork, as soon as I published that post, yet more evidence arrived in my in box -- word that Tony Snow, late of Fox News, and more recently of the White House, where he earned high marks as a gifted purveyor of Bush/Cheney propaganda, would be joining CNN (the self-anointed "Mo

Bob Ostertag: Nothing to Be Afraid of but Fear Itself

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 13:27:04 PDT
Discussing the newest depth to which the Clinton campaign has stooped has become so irritatingly repetitive, at some point I will have to just stop mentioning them. And there are real news stories of major importance this week, such as the implosion of Zimbabwe and the inexplicable posture that the president of South Africa has taken toward it. But surely yesterday's Clinton ugliness surely deserves comment nevertheless. In the final lead-up to the vote in Pennsylvania today, the Clinton campa

Andy Ostroy: Thoughts on Pennsylvania, Clinton and Obama from a "Realisticrat"

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 13:27:04 PDT
Ok, so I'm going out on a limb here. I am a Hillary Clinton supporter, but as I've stated in the past, not by much. I support Clinton because I belong to that little-known political party: Realisticrats. Realisticrats never fall in love with a candidate. We fall in love with winning. We start at the end -- the actual election -- and work our backwards from there in choosing the candidate who has the best chance at victory. I don't rally around anyone unless they look, smell and act like a winne

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 13:27:17 PDT
A report published by the New York Times on Monday suggests that AAA game sales taper off more quickly on Wii than Xbox 360 or PS3, this despite the logical comparison of other highly promoted games.

WHO'S EVER BEEN MORE ICONOCLASTIC THAN THE GUY WHO COINED "DEMOCRAT WARS"?:

Tue, 22 Apr 2008 13:27:24 PDT
Is John McCain Bob Dole?: Or is he Dwight Eisenhower? (Actually, that may depend on whether Barack Obama is Mike Dukakis or John Kennedy.) A handicapping. (John Heilemann, Apr 13, 2008, New York) So if McCain is no longer the bracing iconoclast he was in 2000, who the hell is he? “I’ll tell you,” this person says. “He’s morphed into Bob Dole.” This was not my first encounter with the McCain-is-Dole meme. I had first run across it back in January, on the night of the final Republican debate,
